Robinson 35, Chantilly 21: The Rams offense gained a total of 62 yards in the first half. That was eclipsed in an early second half drive. Down 14-7, Robinson went 65 yards in 48 seconds. It culminated in Jared Velasquez’ 30-yard scamper to tie the game. The Rams took the lead on their next possession and never relinquished it in improving to 6-0. Velasquez had 80 second half yards, totaling 106 on the evening.
Salem 42, Cave Spring 0: For the second straight week, Salem stifles another opposing offense and creates a shutout against a previously unbeaten foe. This time, it was Cave Spring that proved to be the victim. The Vikings were limited to just 115 yards and just five first downs. The finishing touch was put on an 88-yard interception return to the end zone by Stephen Barnette in the final quarter.
Meadowbrook 56, Dinwiddie 17: The Monarchs showed who the current ruler of the Central District is. Meadowbrook used 36 unanswered points – 22 coming in the third quarter – to blitz the Generals. Domico Phillips accounted for five touchdowns, including runs of 37 and 35 as well as a 64-yard reception from quarterback Andre Coble.

Ocean Lakes 24, Kellam 23: The upset attempt of Kellam was not to be, due in part to a blocked extra point in the fourth quarter by Matthew Baptiste. His swat prevented a tie and kept the Dolphins in front by the slightest of margins. They were nearly done in by 125 yards in penalties and by nearly letting the Knights come back from a 24-10 deficit. Ocean Lakes quarterback Lafonte Thourogood threw for three touchdowns.
Oscar Smith 42, Deep Creek 0: On a 60-yard completion to Quinta Funderburk, Oscar Smith quarterback Phillip Sims became Virginia High School League’s all-time leader in career passing yards, surpassing former Dinwiddie signal caller Adam Morgan. This was the highlight in a 42-0 win for the Tigers over visiting Deep Creek. Sims finished the night with 9,179 career passing yards – 253 of them came on Friday to go along with four touchdowns.
Phoebus 45, Kecoughtan 0: Last week was a stress test. This one was far easier. Coming off a dramatic last-second field goal to triumph past Woodside, Phoebus got a career-best 218 rushing yards from Colby Goodwyn in a 45-0 win. As a team, the Phantoms ran for 327 yards and had 21 first downs. In contrast, Kecoughtan was forced into four fumbles, three of which were recovered by Phoebus.
York 18, Poquoson 12: In Ben Edwards’ return to full-time play, he showed why he’s the most valuable player in the Bay Rivers District. After Poquoson took a 12-10 lead with in the fourth quarter on a 61-yard scoring march, Edwards – like he’s done many times this season – led York down with a resounding response. He didn’t come back to his normal position of quarterback until the second half, but he made the most of the time he had. His 1-yard keeper with 3:09 – and subsequent two-point conversion by Tre Thomas – gave the Falcons a six-point edge. Edwards preserved the victory with a last-minute interception.
