Conditions were poor but the golf was great Tuesday as the boys state golf regionals took place around Illinois.
It rained at the start of many of the tournaments, and even though the sun came out later in the day, it was windy through much of Illinois, making the golf more difficult than usual.
The tournament at Mount Carmel was delayed for three hours due to a thunderstorm in the area.
In Class 1A competition, defending champion St. Thomas More won by only two strokes over Catlin, which was led by medallist David Keenan's 75.
Other top individual scores included a 67 by Tucker Guisewite of Mount Carmel, a 70 by Bryce Dought of Benton and 71 by Jered Hogan of Roxana.
Fisher won its first regional title behind the play of tournament winner Kevin Clore, who shot a 73 on his home course.
In Class 2A, Peter McKinzie of Normal University won in a two-hole playoff with Alex Burge of Bloomington for the individual title at Bloomington's regional. Normal U. is the six-time defending champion and won the regional by 13 strokes over Metamora.
Austin Hunt of Champaign Centennial won a one-hole playoff against teammate Robb Cozad to win the first-place prize at Mattoon.
At Oswego, George Tate of Springfield High edged Ben Patton of Springfield Lanphier in a four-hole playoff.
Justin Vogt of Breese Mater Dei had the best score among Class 2A golfers with a 70.
In Class 3A, Fremd senior Sean Jones defeated freshman Luke DeTrempe from two-time defending champion Saint Viator in a one-hole playoff to win the Palatine regional. Saint Viator won the team title by 27 strokes over Fremd.
At Bartlett Hills, Ethan Waterman of Glenbard North made a hole in one on the 11th hole.
The best 3A score was turned in by Tanner Panozzo of St. Rita with a 67.
The boys sectionals are Monday, with the finals next weekend.
