Valley (1-5) at Desert Pines (3-3)- Thursday, 8 p.m. FINAL DP 27 VALLEY 8
Regardless of the records coming in, this “Thursday Night Lights” match-up features some marquee talent capable of putting on a major league show. Valley’s Garic Wharton has already committed to Arizona and is an offensive threat to score on any play (131 yards rushing and one TD, he also threw for another score last week). Since his move to quarterback the Viking offense has shown glimpses of is potential and the Vikings are sky high coming in off a 28-12 win over Chapparal. The Viking “Big Man” Suki Wilks even scored on a one yard run ala “the Fridge”. DP counters with the prolific passing combo of Dalton Leilua to Eric Tuiloma. The two have hooked up 19 times for over 23 yards per reception and six TDS. The Jaguars defense must contain Wharton or else hope the offense puts up some big numbers.
#2 Palo Verde (6-0) at #3 Legacy (6-0)- Friday, 7 p.m. FINAL LEGACY 7 PV 6

Panther running back Brandon Wright and his #2 Palo Verde teammates face off with undefeated #3 Legacy in a battle of undefeated powers.
Last week undefeated Legacy won an overtime thriller against Cimarron 30-29 when William Purcell dove into the end zone for a two-point conversion. QB Devin Weidemann had a great game passing and the Longhorns also have RB Deshae Edwards to rely on. Edwards has run for 869 yards and 15 TDS. Purcell leads the team in tackles with 67, an average of 13.4 per game. He better be ready to tackle. The Panthers come in undefeated as well and have a three headed monster at running back/wing back. Tyrone Blake has over 600 yards rushing and eight TDS. Brandon Wright has run for 532 and 10 TDS, while Chappelle Thomas has 572 and eight TDS. That’s over 1700 yards and 26 TDS from the group in six games. Throw in defensive standout Daniel Godkin and you can see why Palo is #2. This is THE game to see. The fallout from the decision in this one will have major playoff implications.
#4 Del Sol (5-0) at #5 Silverado (5-0)- Friday, 7 p.m. FINAL DS 27 SIL 7
Wow, yet another battle of undefeated powers as Dez Reed and Troy Miller will try to control the ball and let Kip Canyon and his defensive buddies get some rest. They Dragons had better control the ball because on the Skyhawk side of the ball there are couple of major offensive weapons locked, loaded and ready to fire away. QB Trent Tipton has run for seven TDS and is always dangerous in the open field. Not quite as dangerous as RB Terran Madu-Jules, who has rushed for 757 yards and 10 TDS. The down side for Silverado occurs when they are forced to pass. Of course no one has done that yet as evidenced by the Skyhawks total of 15 attempts all year.
The Meadows (3-1) at Needles (3-2)- Friday, 7 p.m. FINAL MEADOWS 32 NEEDLES 26
In a 2A showdown The Meadows (#2 CANV 2A Rankings) will face off with #7 Needles. The Mustangs are coming off a loss to Lincoln County, in a game where the Lynx rang up 52 points on the Needles defense. A pair of juniors leads the Needles offense as Bobby Stahel, 513 yards rushing, seven TDS, and QB Andrew Mathews have been outstanding. The Meadows offense counters with QB Garrett Gosse, who has completed 55% of his passes for 697 yards, and thrown seven TDS. Three of Gosse’s scoring tosses have gone to TE Dylan Lee.
#2 Truckee (5-0) at #1 Dayton (6-0)- Friday, 7 p.m. FINAL TRUCKEE 55 DAYTON 6
Without any doubt this is the 3A game of the week. Kyle Onstott ran for 266 yards and three TDS as Dayton secured its top spot with a dominating 40-14 win over Yerington last week. The Wolverines have been on fire and destroyed a third ranked team for the second week in a row as they manhandled Fernley 50-9. Truckee QB Ben Bolton hooked up with WR James DePew for a pair of long scoring plays (58, 54) and the Wolverine defense simply stuffed the Vaqueros. Which defense will reign supreme? Who will be #1?
#9 North Valleys (5-1) at #11 McQueen (3-2)- Friday, 7 p.m. FINAL MCQUEEN 57 NORTH VALLEYS 0

Lucas Fejer hopes to lead McQueen past North Valleys in a big showdown game.
If North Valleys QB Tim Herman is forced to throw the ball 46 times against the Lancers, like he did against Spanish Springs in the Panthers 24-14 loss, they could lose their second game in a row. McQueen has been slowly gaining some offensive consistency but needs a statement game as the playoffs near. A loss to North Valleys would be crippling and send a message to the rest of the Northern Nevada teams that anyone can beat them. Which team will make a statement?
#7 Reed (4-2) at Hug (3-3)- Friday, 7 p.m. FINAL REED 28 HUG 3
The Raiders need a big game from QB Tyler Pine. Hug has been playing well defensively but their offense has been somewhat sporadic. If Pine and Aaron Greenblatt hook up often then Reed wins handily. If not, and Reed lets Hug hang close, look out for an upset.
Eureka (5-0) at Carlin (4-2)- Friday 7 p.m.
These are two teams from an area where getting scores seems harder than a petrified redwood. Eureka is the CANV #3 team in 1A behind Coleville and Pahranaghat Valley and Carlin is #7. Because of their records this should be a game to watch, if you can find it. If you do drop an email telling us what the score was.
Girls Volleyball
Lake Mead (21-4) at Pahranaghat Valley (14-1)- Saturday, 5 p.m. FINAL LM 3 PV 0
Ashley Newton and Amanda Wellman lead the Eagles in this battle of undefeated 1A powers. #1 Lake Mead is the returning 1A Nevada champion and has won 13 matches in a row without surrendering a game in the process. #2 Pahranaghat has won 11 matches in a row behind the play of Dakota Day. Something has to give in this one. A streak will end, whose will it be?
Green Valley (20-4) at Coronado (15-9), Tuesday 5 p.m.
The Gators showdown with Silverado was rescheduled due to a power outage so the Gators will try and get ready for the make-up game by taking on the Cougars and Katie Gamksy. Siga Applegate has had a lot of help from Emma Johnson, Taylor Seidler and Jenna Chavez during the Gators 6-0 run in league play.
