Welcome to our GameTracker on CoachesAid.com. This is a regular Thursday feature previewing the top 10 high school sporting events over the next week. All these games are Friday night at 7 CT unless noted (and include CoachesAid.com rankings):
McIntosh (8-1, No. 9 in final 1A rankings) at Brantley (10-1, No. 4 in 1A): McIntosh squeaked into the second round of the 1A playoffs, downing Geneva County, 33-27. Reid Hill had 136 yards rushing on 13 carries, scored two touchdowns and had 13 tackles. Brantley didn’t have much trouble with Butler County Magnet in a 41-18 victory.
McKenzie (10-1, No. 6 in 1A) at Sweet Water (10-1, No. 1 in 1A): McKenzie set up a second-round clash with the three-time defending state champions last week via a 52-7 victory against Fruitdale. Sweet Water turned in a lopsided 70-0 victory against Providence Christian last week. RB Jeremy Landrum rushed for 168 yards on nine carries and two TDs.
Washington County (9-2, No. 7 in 2A) at Elba (11-0, No. 1 in 2A): Washington County scored 21 third-quarter points in a 49-7 blowout of Houston County in the first round last week. Elba began its run as the top-ranked team in 2A with a 31-0 blanking of Excel last week.
Houston Academy (9-1, No. 4 in 2A) at Leroy (9-2, No. 6 in 2A): Houston Academy edged Millry, 21-14, last week to advance – scoring 21 quick points and making big defensive plays in the secondary to preserve the win. Leroy began its quest for a fourth straight 2A crown as QB William Gartman threw three touchdown passes in a 34-21 win against New Brockton.
Dadeville (10-1, No. 9 in 3A) at Cordova (10-1, No. 2 in 3A): Dadeville downed West Blocton, 28-12, last week in the first round of the 3A playoffs. Cordova started its trek to a third straight Super Six title game, racking up 417 offensive yards in a 49-14 blowout of Montevallo.
Thomasville (10-1, No. 5 in 4A) at UMS-Wright (9-2, No. 6 in 4A): Thomasville, the top-ranked 4A team for much of the season, cruised past Alabama Christian Academy, 49-14, last week. RB Chris Dukes pounded out 127 yards and three touchdowns to lead UMS-Wright to a 52-7 romp over visiting Saint James.
Demopolis (8-3, No. 8 in 5A) at Greenville (11-0, No. 2 in 5A): Demopolis needed two overtimes to escape Shelby County with a 26-20 victory last week. RB Demarcus James clinched the victory with a 2-yard touchdown run. Quarterbacks Cortez Eeagler and Kent Riley combined for five touchdowns and 199 rushing yards on 21 carries in a 40-7victory against Moody.
Central-Phenix City (10-1, No. 7 in 6A) at Prattville (9-2, No. 3 in 6A): Central-Phenix City advanced to the second round via a 32-17 victory against Stanhope Elmore last week. Prattville shook off an early Dothan touchdown by reeling off 43 first-half points in a 50-13 victory to begin its trek to a fourth straight 6A title.
Grissom girls, boys basketball at Bob Jones, 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday: The Patriots are the top-ranked Class 6A boys and girls basketball teams in the CoachesAid.com preseason rankings, and face Grissom in a home doubleheader. Bob Jones’ girls are 4-0 so far this season, while the Patriots’ boys are also 4-0.
