CLASS 6A
1.) St. Xavier (11-1)
2.) Simon Kenton (11-1)
3.) *Trinity (8-4)
4.) Male (10-2)
5.) Henry Clay (10-2)
6.) Scott County (9-3)
7.) Bryan Station (9-3)
8.) Ballard (8-4)
9.) duPont Manual (5-7)
10.) George Rogers Clark (8-4)
PLAYOFFS: The 6A playoffs have been fairly interesting since the first week, thanks in large part to Northern Kentucky’s District 6 being matched up against Louisville’s District 3. Now it is time for the championship of that pairing between Simon Kenton and St. Xavier. St. Xavier is the favorite, but the Pioneers have played well all season. The winner of that game should make it to the 6A final. The favorite to win the bottom half of the bracket is Trinity, but Male, Henry Clay and Scott County are all right there. This week’s schedule - Greenwood at Henderson County, Simon Kenton at St. Xavier, Male at Trinity and Scott County at Henry Clay.
CLASS 5A
1.) *Highlands (12-0)
2.) Bowling Green (10-2)
3.) John Hardin (12-0)
4.) Christian County (8-4)
5.) Owensboro (9-3)
6.) Johnson Central (8-4)
7.) Warren Central (8-4)
8.) Letcher County Central (10-2)
9.) Pulaski County (9-3)
10.) Oldham County (8-4)
PLAYOFFS: At the end of each week, it is getting harder to imagine that any team in 5A is going to knock out Highlands. Throughout the season, most though that the final was going to be Highlands and Bowling Green. However, the Purples have a tough matchup this week against Christian County. I expect the winner of that game to play John Hardin in the semifinals. Playoff quarterfinals are this week - Bowling Green at Christian County, Oldham County at John Hardin, Johnson Central at Highlands and Letcher County Central at Pulaski County.
CLASS 4A
1.) Boyle County (12-0)
2.) *Bell County (11-1)
3.) Lone Oak (12-0)
4.) Allen County-Scottsville (11-0)
5.) Lexington Catholic (8-4)
6.) Lawrence County (12-0)
7.) Marion County (10-2)
8.) Western (7-5)
9.) Franklin-Simpson (9-3)
10.) Holmes (9-3)
PLAYOFFS: The 4A race to the state title is getting exciting. Lone Oak remains the favorite on the top half of the bracket. While the bottom half could have two interesting quarterfinal games this weekend – LexCath at Boyle and Lawrence at Bell. The complete schedule is Allen County-Scottsville at Lone Oak, Marion County at Western, Lexington Catholic at Boyle County and Lawrence County at Bell County.
CLASS 3A
1.) Somerset (12-0)
2.) *Central (7-5)
3.) Sheldon Clark (8-4)
4.) Mason County (11-1)
5.) Belfry (8-4)
6.) Henry County (10-2)
7.) Breathitt County (7-5)
8.) Western Hills (8-4)
9.) Paducah Tilghman (6-6)
10.) Russellville (8-4)
PLAYOFFS: The top half of the 3A bracket appears to Central’s to lose. While the bottom half will be ultra competitive. A Somerset/Sheldon Clark semifinal is likely, however after last week’s upsets anything is possible. Playoff quarterfinals are this week - Paducah Tilghman at Russellville, Henry County at Central, Breathitt County at Somerset and Sheldon Clark at Pike County Central.
CLASS 2A
1.) *Fort Campbell (12-0)
2.) Prestonsburg (12-0)
3.) Murray (12-0)
4.) Corbin (10-2)
5.) DeSales (9-3)
6.) Green County (9-3)
7.) Monroe County (9-3)
8.) Newport Central Catholic (7-5)
9.) Holy Cross (Covington) (6-6)
10.) Christian Academy (Louisville) (9-3)
PLAYOFFS: The 2A quarterfinals this week should be interesting. The best of the bunch is between two undefeated schools Fort Campbell and Murray. Then on the lower half of the bracket Corbin visits Prestonsburg. I like whoever wins those matchups to face one another in the state final. 2A playoff schedule this week - Fort Campbell at Murray, Monroe County at Green County, Newport Central Catholic at DeSales and Corbin at Prestonsburg.
CLASS 1A
1.) Lexington Christian (11-1)
2.) Mayfield (11-1)
3.) *Beechwood (9-3)
4.) Hazard (8-4)
5.) Crittenden County (10-2)
6.) Bellevue (9-3)
7.) Raceland (8-4)
8.) Allen Central (10-2)
9.) Frankfort (8-4)
10.) Harlan (7-5)
PLAYOFFS: Not much has changed in 1A all season, Lexington Christian and Mayfield have been No. 1 and No. 2 the whole way and are currently lined up to play each other in the state final. However, Hazard could test the Eagles in the semifinals of the lower half of the bracket while Beechwood could play Mayfield in semifinals of the top half. Playoff quarterfinals are this week - Crittenden County at Mayfield, Bellevue at Beechwood, Raceland at Lexington Christian and Harlan at Hazard.
